Contractor Hino Local Development Manager
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
A Hino Local Development Manager position is vacant to lead and coordinate Hino South Africa's localisation programme. This includes developing capable local suppliers, body builders and fitment partners, as well as managing approved local development projects from feasibility through validation, industrialisation and operational handover. The role is responsible for ensuring that locally developed components, conversions and solutions meet Hino requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery and regulatory compliance, while reducing import dependency, strengthening local supplier capability and improving business competitiveness.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Lead approved local development and localisation projects from feasibility through to operational handover.
- Identify, assess, qualify and develop local suppliers, body builders and fitment partners.
- Define project scope, requirements, timelines, budgets, risks, governance structures and approval gates.
- Coordinate prototype development, testing, validation, documentation and technical approvals.
- Ensure compliance with Hino safety, quality, legal, warranty and homologation standards.
- Drive quality planning, tooling readiness, supplier capacity development and industrialisation activities.
- Lead cost analysis, business case development, supplier negotiations, local-content initiatives and value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) activities.
- Monitor supplier performance relating to cost, quality, delivery, capacity and warranty metrics, and drive corrective actions where required.
- Coordinate cross-functional stakeholder engagement and provide management reporting on project progress, risks and key decisions.
- Build organisational capability through standardisation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPIERENCE
- NQF Level 6 (Minimum 360 credits on level 8 framework) in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration or a relevant discipline
- 8-10 years' experience within the automotive or commercial vehicle industry
- Minimum 3 years' experience leading local development, supplier development, localisation or industrialisation projects.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to supplier and plant locations.
- Demonstrated supplier assessment, prototype/validation, negotiation, cost and quality-improvement experience.
- Proficiency in SAP/ERP systems and project management tools.
