Specialist HR Industrial Relations
PURPOSE:
This position is intended to fulfil the responsibilities of a specialist in Industrial Relations, with a primary focus on labour litigation, legal drafting, and the interpretation of collective agreements to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.
The Specialist will be responsible for drafting collective agreements, managing supplier-related labour risks, and delivering training sessions. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and advising on internal policies and employment contracts, monitoring compliance, and providing expert legal support to the Industrial Relations (IR) department as well as other stakeholders across the organisation.
This role reports directly to the Senior Industrial Relations Specialist.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Collective Bargaining:
Facilitate and support collective bargaining processes, including the drafting and negotiation of collective agreements. - Labour Litigation:
Represent the organisation in labour-related disputes and litigation processes, including CCMA and Labour Court proceedings. - Legislative Compliance:
Ensure compliance with applicable labour legislation, collective agreements, and company policies. - Labour Risk Management Initiatives:
Identify, assess, and mitigate labour-related risks, particularly in supplier and third-party engagements. - Training and Skills Transfer:
Design and deliver training programs focused on labour law, disciplinary procedures, and policy awareness to build internal capability. - Policy and Contract Review and Awareness:
Conduct regular reviews of HR policies and employment contracts, ensuring legal compliance and raising awareness across the organisation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum NQF6 – (360 credits) Four-year Law Degree (LLB)
- Admission as an attorney (preferable)
- 3–5 years’ experience, with a strong emphasis on labour disputes and labour litigation (preferable)
- Extensive Knowledge of Statutory / Legal Labour Law requirements
- Experience working in a highly unionised environment (preferable)
- Computer literacy (MS Office; word and excel)
- Strong attention to detail, with above-average accuracy and precision
