The Assistant Manager: Projects & Construction Compliance will support the end-to-end delivery of capital projects, maintenance projects, and infrastructure upgrades. The incumbent must possess strong project management capability, in-depth knowledge of South African Construction Regulations (OHS Act), and a solid understanding of the Architectural and Professional Teamwork Stages (Phases 1–6). This role ensures regulatory compliance, project governance, stakeholder coordination, and successful execution of works from inception to handover.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

 

  • Support and coordinate projects across all stages: inception, design, procurement, construction, and close-out. 
  • Develop project briefs, scopes, timelines, budgets, and risk registers.  
  • Track progress and performance using recognized project management methodologies.  
  • Conduct site monitoring and facilitate technical progress meetings.  
  • Manage contract variations, claims, and performance issues.  
  • Ensure that project close-out is completed with all certifications, warranties, and as-built documentation. 
  • Assist the organization in meeting its legal obligations as a Client under Construction Regulation 5. 
  • Prepare and review Baseline Risk Assessments, Health & Safety Specifications, and required appointment letters. 
  • Ensure Principal Contractors submit compliant Health & Safety Files before commencement. 
  • Inception – project briefing and feasibility  
  • Concept & Viability – early design and costing  
  • Design Development – coordinated multidisciplinary design  
  • Documentation & Procurement – technical documentation and tendering  
  • Construction – site monitoring and compliance  
  • Close-Out – commissioning, handover, and final project closure 
  • Conduct safety walks, compliance audits, and monitor construction activities for regulatory adherence.  
  • Review method statements, incident reports, and mandatory safety documentation.

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • NQF 5 qualification (240 credits – level 8 framework) in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction or similar.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in construction project management.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of South African Construction Regulations and safety legislation.
  • Basic understanding of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) essential.
